I've been working on ALL new stuff. I made a dozen large nice sized planters with my gray porcelain (AKA the reclaim from all my black and white scraps).

These are upside down waiting for their bottoms to be "signed" and carved. They were coated with white porcelain slip and then carved. So when they are all finished, they will be white with the gray porcelain showing underneath. I'm not sure if I'm going to add any color to them. They may just get a very thin coat of a clear glaze.

I also been making LOTS of pitchers. All different, all one of a kind. Some have been made into animals...of course. In fact, I'm off right now to make some more.

Garden.

This one made it on to the front page of Etsy today. It got 400 views in 2 min. Crazy.

Studio Pottery.

Well, I guess everything I make is studio pottery. But I say that because this one really reminds me of all that wonderful mid-century studio pottery. The decoration is more varied and I played with the color a bit more than usual. I love how the green changes depending on it's application over the white or the gray porcelain. I'm really enjoying the white slip over the gray. I'm thinking I may not use the gray with black anymore, just white. It gives the work a softer, earthier feeling while still being very modern and clean.

My planters are finished! They all came out beautifully. Tomorrow they'll get packed up and ready to be shipped off to their new retail location.

Sciatica.

Yup, my sciatica is acting up and this time I know exactly why....These babies. They are big. I think next time someone wants a large order of anything bigger than 5 or 6 lbs of clay I'm going to have to decline. It just tears my body apart centering the clay on the wheel. I've been talking about raising my wheel and throwing standing up, but haven't done it....I think I need to get my butt off my stool and just do it. These are going to be planters. Something that I haven't made in a long time...well, I guess not since last spring/summer.

After packing and shipping all morning, I'm going to post this guy in my shop...My new green is on this one, although you can't really see what it really looks like on the gray porcelain. It's glossy like the rest of my glazes, which is a quality I was going for. My "old" green has a bit of a satiny, faintly bumpy texture which was fine when I had other glazes that had that finish, but now I don't. The green is in a similar family as my other green but it has a bit more lime and a little less avocado....but over my gray porcelain, the new green looks VERY retro avocado.

Okay, off to post and work.

☼ Spring.

I slacked a bit yesterday and spent some time cleaning up the yard and uncovering more flowers. I couldn't help it, it was sooooo nice out. I'm taking it easy today as well, although it is much cooler and I'm keeping inside. I'm firing a bisque and posting more new work in my shop. I keep posting chicks and they keep selling within a few hours. So, if you want one and missed it, just shoot me a message, I do have more in the studio...so much for my summer inventory. I did post this new bowl. It was my favorite thing that came out of the last firing.

Isn't it pretty? And it feels so nice.

I also got to hang out with my friend Jen on Friday. We were both in the BFA ceramics program at the same time. Fortunately she is also still living in the area and making work. She has an Etsy shop too. Go check her out! She has beautiful planters just waiting to be filled up with herbs or some pretty annuals. I'm totally in love with this one.

She's not using terracotta anymore so get a jump on what's left in her shop. And she's mixed up some beautiful glazes to use on her new stoneware work so be on the lookout...I know, she showed them to me on Friday! It's so nice to have someone around to geek about ceramics with.☺
